Background & Production Trouble marked the official birth of Whitesnake as a full band following David Coverdale’s initial solo efforts after the breakup of Deep Purple. The album was produced by the legendary Martin "The Wasp" Birch, famous for his work with Deep Purple and later Iron Maiden. Recorded in just 10 days during the summer of 1978 at Central Recorders Studio in London, the album's title was inspired by the birth of Coverdale's daughter during the recording sessions—an event he jokingly referred to as "trouble".

Musical Composition & Style The record is a definitive example of early British blues-infused hard rock, characterized by earthy grooves and dual-guitar interplay.

  • The Purple Connection: This was the first Whitesnake album to feature keyboardist Jon Lord, reuniting him with his former Deep Purple bandmate David Coverdale.

  • Signature Tracks: The album features high-energy rockers like "Take Me with You" and soulful, bluesy numbers such as "Love to Keep You Warm".

  • The Beatles Cover: A notable inclusion is a deconstructed, hard-rocking version of "Day Tripper".

  • Vocal Power: Coverdale’s "soul-soaked roar" is at the forefront, supported by the steady rhythms of original drummer Dave Dowle and bassist Neil Murray.

Legacy & Collector Notes Trouble reached #50 on the UK Albums Chart, spending two weeks in the Top 100 and establishing the band's foundation in the British rock scene. For vinyl collectors, the original 1978 UK EMI/Sunburst pressings are the most sought after, often featuring a smooth picture sleeve and a lyric inner bag. While it didn't see an immediate US release until a 1980 remix, original European pressings are highly valued for their raw, Birch-produced grit. In 2014, a limited 180g vinyl repressing was released, remastered from high-resolution sources for modern high-fidelity systems.
