More than a passion
Scott has collected records all his life. First falling in love with listening to a cartridge player in his Dad's car. His Record obsession then began. His Mum used to help him purchase records at a very young age, and the initial thrill of placing the needle down on the vinyl has never left him.
Scott and Cheryl first started selling records at the Rocklea Markets in Queensland, from 1986 to 1993.
They've taken a few breaks here and there to raise their family, but one way or another, they've been selling records at the Rocklea Markets in Brisbane, the Carrara Markets on the Gold Coast, or the Glenorchy Markets and Various Record Fairs around the State and Salamanca Markets in Hobart since 1986.
Vinyl Obsessed
We understand the chase for that elusive record - the one you’ve dreamed of owning for years.
Scott has been a dedicated vinyl collector since he was 12 years old, and his obsession continues to this day.
His loyal partner of 40 years, Chez, knows more about vinyl than most- after all, she’s been listening to Scott talk about it daily for the last four decades!
Since 1986
Our Vinyl journey started long ago.
We began selling records at markets in the late 80's - You may have seen us at Rocklea, Carrara, Glenorchy and Salamanca Market as a casual back in the day. The only thing that paused our run was starting a family and building our future together.
Now, we’re back - and couldn’t be happier to call Salamanca Market home once again.
Yes, those 5.30am starts in the freezing cold are early, but they’re worth it. Bringing music - especially vintage vinyl - to fellow lovers of Records fills us with joy every single weekend.
Our regulars and fellow stallholders make every market day a blast, and nothing beats seeing someone finally complete their collection.
Our favourite stories...!
The Avid Collector
When a John Lee Hooker collector found a record he’d been chasing for 25 years.
His reaction was a resounding FFFFF Yeah!
That’s what it’s all about - moments like that are why we turn up.
We don’t just sell vinyl - we live and breathe it. People can feel that, and that’s what keeps our tribe growing.
How our logo came about
Our Iconic Gravestone Records Logo was born in the 80's, thanks to a trade with a talented artist whose brother (a die-hard Iron Maiden fan) loved our stall at Carrara Markets and wanted one of our records so badly that he offered to design our Logo.
The now famous hand raising from the grave - in exchange.
We said yes! And the rest is history.
Why we love vinyl...?
In the 90's people threw out their collections when CD’s became king.
But now, records are king again and particularly vintage vinyl!
Everyone in the know, knows nothing sounds like an analogue record. The Artists want you to hear their music like that.
The Artists were there!
Now don’t get us wrong some sound engineers can work incredible magic with today’s technology - especially if they get hold of the master Analogue tapes.
But vinyl is king...!
