Background & Production Come Death is the fourth studio album from the Norwegian death metal heavyweights Blood Red Throne. While Norway is often synonymous with black metal, Blood Red Throne—featuring Daniel "Død" Olaisen (formerly of Satyricon)—consistently championed the "old school" death metal sound. Recorded at Dub Studio with producer Endre Kirkesola, the album was released via Earache Records during a period when the band was refining their signature blend of technical precision and groovy, punishing riffs.
Musical Composition & Style The album is widely regarded as one of the band's most aggressive and focused efforts, moving away from some of the experimental industrial tinges found on previous records.
-
The Sound: Influenced heavily by the Florida death metal scene (Deicide, Cannibal Corpse) and the groove of Pantera, the music is defined by "thick" guitar tones and relentless blast beats.
-
Vocal Performance: Vald delivers a powerhouse performance, utilizing deep, cavernous growls that remain surprisingly rhythmic throughout the chaos.
-
Key Tracks: "Slaying the Lamb" and "Rebirth in Blood" are standouts that highlight the band's ability to transition from high-speed tremolo picking to crushing mid-tempo breakdowns.
-
The "Come Death" Closer: The title track serves as an epic, 8-minute finale that showcases the band's atmospheric side without sacrificing their trademark brutality.
Original CD & Collector Notes As an Earache Records release from the late 2000s, there are a couple of versions to distinguish for your inventory.
-
The Standard Jewel Case: The primary retail version (MOSH 334CD) comes in a standard jewel case with an 8-page booklet.
-
The "LTD" Digipak: A limited edition Digipak was also released (MOSH 334CDL). This version is highly sought after because it contains a bonus cover of "Torture Ritual" by the death metal legends Mortician.
-
Artwork: The cover features a stark, high-contrast image of a mummified skeletal figure, which perfectly encapsulates the album's bleak lyrical themes.
-
Identification: Look for the Earache "MOSH" catalog number on the spine. Original 2007 pressings were manufactured in the UK by Deluxe, and you should see their name in the matrix/runout of the disc.
