Background & Production Released shortly after the album of the same name, "The Number of the Beast" single is one of the most iconic releases in heavy metal history. This limited edition Picture Disc was part of a series of high-visibility releases by EMI to promote the band’s skyrocketing success. Produced by Martin Birch, the title track features the legendary spoken-word introduction from the Book of Revelation (read by actor Barry Clayton) and the famous glass-shattering scream by Bruce Dickinson. The picture disc format became a signature for Maiden, allowing the band to showcase the elaborate artwork that was becoming as famous as the music itself.
