Released on May 27, 2022, Diamond Star Halos is the twelfth studio album by the legendary British rock band Def Leppard. It marked their first studio release in seven years and was widely celebrated as a vibrant homage to the 1970s glam rock era that originally inspired the band.

The Story Behind the Title

The name Diamond Star Halos is a direct reference to a lyric from the 1971 T. Rex hit "Get It On" (specifically the line: "You've got a hubcap diamond star halo"). Joe Elliott and Phil Collen chose the title because the album captures the "nonsensical, fun" lyrical style and aesthetic of artists like Marc Bolan, David Bowie, and Mott the Hoople.

• "Kick": The lead single and a pure glam-rock anthem. It features foot-stomping rhythms and "gang vocals" that echo the energy of early 70s bubblegum rock.

• "This Guitar" & "Lifeless": These tracks feature guest vocals from bluegrass/country legend Alison Krauss. "This Guitar" is a soulful, slightly countrified ballad that has become a fan favorite for its emotional weight.

• "Take What You Want": A high-energy opener that many critics noted feels like a spiritual successor to their Pyromania era.

• "Goodbye for Good This Time" & "Angels (Can't Help You Now)": These sweeping ballads feature piano work by Mike Garson, who was famously David Bowie’s longtime pianist. These songs lean into a lush, orchestral sound reminiscent of Queen or Elton John.
