Background & Production We Are Not Your Kind was recorded between November 2018 and April 2019 at EastWest Studios in Hollywood, California. Produced by Greg Fidelman and the band, the album was created during a period of significant internal upheaval, including the mid-session dismissal of long-time percussionist Chris Fehn due to a lawsuit. It is the only Slipknot record to feature the band as an eight-member group until the arrival of Michael "Tortilla Man" Pfaff. Guitarist Jim Root noted that the band took more time to write and refine this record than any previous release, aiming for a cohesive "front to back" album experience rather than just a collection of singles.
