Nick Drake’s "Bryter Layter," released in 1971 by Island Records, stands as a seminal work in English folk music. This second studio album highlights Drake’s evolving artistry with lush arrangements and collaborative musicianship, distinguishing it from his subsequent solo-only recordings. Blending intricate melodies and poetic lyricism, "Bryter Layter" captures a nuanced soundscape that enriches Drake’s delicate vocal style. An essential album for aficionados of folk innovation and subtle orchestration, it marks the last phase of Drake’s recordings featuring a full band, preceding the intimate minimalism of "Pink Moon."
