Background & Production Written over the four years following the death of frontman David Le’aupepe’s father, Teleso "Tattersall" Le'aupepe, angel in realtime. is a sprawling, 67-minute concept album exploring grief, indigenous identity, and family secrets. The band relocated to London to record the album, primarily self-producing it at their own studio. A major sonic shift from their previous work, the record prominently features field recordings of Indigenous Pacific music collected by ethnomusicologist David Fanshawe, used with permission to honor Le'aupepe's Samoan and Jewish heritage. It debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and won the 2022 J Award for Australian Album of the Year.
