Full Boar – Australian Compilation
Artist: Various Artists Title: Full Boar Format: Vinyl LP (Limited Edition Compilation) Original Release: 1979 / 1980 Label: K-Tel / Majestic Catalog Number: TA 263 Genre: New Wave / Pop Rock / Synth-pop
The "Deep Dive" Details:
-
The 20-Track Powerhouse: Unlike many modern compilations that stick to 10 or 12 songs, "Full Boar" is a classic example of the high-density K-Tel era, squeezing 20 tracks onto a single LP. Because of this, the grooves are very thin and shallow to fit all the music. To get the best sound, this record requires a very clean stylus and a well-aligned tonearm.
-
The "Boar" Poster: This is the ultimate value-add for your listing. The original release came with a large fold-out poster featuring a pig's head wearing sunglasses. Because these were almost always pinned to teenage bedroom walls in 1980, finding a copy that still has the poster in "Near Mint" condition is extremely rare and can double the price of the record.
-
The CBS Artarmon Cut: Check the dead wax (runout) for the stamped codes MX192285 and MX192286. This confirms the record was mastered and pressed at the CBS Records plant in Artarmon, NSW. Despite the high track count, the CBS engineers were famous for maintaining a decent volume level on these compilations.
-
Key "Aussie" Content: This compilation is a "who's who" of the 1979/80 Australian music scene. It features:
-
Cold Chisel – Choir Girl
-
Split Enz – I Got You
-
Mi-Sex – Computer Games
-
The Reels – Love Will Find A Way
-
The Sports – Strangers On A Train
-
Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons – Shape I'm In
-
-
The Front Laminated Sleeve: The jacket features a high-gloss lamination on the front, which has preserved the vibrant "Boar" artwork well over the decades. However, these sleeves are prone to "spine splits" because the cardboard used was relatively thin to keep production costs down for K-Tel's mass-market distribution.
-
Space Invaders Rarity: The track "Space Invaders" by Player (1) is a cult favorite among electronic and novelty music collectors. This compilation is one of the most common places to find this specific 1979 Australian hit on 12-inch 33rpm format.
