Description

Traffic’s dynamic 1971 live album — loose, soulful, and full of improvisational energy.

Traffic – Welcome to the Canteen
Format: Vinyl
Label: Island Records
Year: 1971

Released in 1971, Welcome to the Canteen captures Traffic and friends in a spirited live setting during their reunion period. Featuring Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood, Dave Mason, and additional musicians, the album blends rock, jazz, folk, and improvisational jam elements into a vibrant, free-flowing performance.

Standout moments include powerful live versions of “Medicated Goo,” “40,000 Headmen,” “Shouldn’t Have Took More Than You Gave,” and a fiery take on “Gimme Some Lovin’.” The record highlights the chemistry and versatility of this expanded Traffic lineup.

Notes: Originally released on Island Records; notable for its unique band crediting as “Jerry Garcia & Friends” on some editions, despite being a true Traffic release.
