Artist: Faith No More Title: Who Cares A Lot? The Greatest Hits Album Type: Greatest Hits Compilation (Double Vinyl Reissue) Original Release Date: November 24, 1998 (CD) | January 8, 2021 (First Vinyl Pressing) Label: Slash / Rhino Records (Catalog: 190295233174) Genre: Alternative Metal / Funk Metal / Experimental Rock

Background & Production Originally released in 1998 to mark the band's initial disbandment, Who Cares A Lot? serves as the definitive retrospective of the band’s Slash Records era (1985–1997). While the CD version was a staple of the late 90s, the album curiously never received a vinyl release during its original run. It wasn't until 2021 that Rhino and Slash finally brought the compilation to the 12" format. The collection was curated to highlight the band's evolution from the gritty, post-punk funk of the Chuck Mosley years to the genre-defying, cinematic metal led by Mike Patton.

Musical Composition & Style The album is organized chronologically, tracking one of the most unpredictable trajectories in rock history.

  • Major Hits: Includes the essential "Epic," "Midlife Crisis," "Digging the Grave," and the iconic cover of the Commodores' "Easy."

  • The Vocal Shift: Side A features the early tracks "We Care A Lot" and "Introduce Yourself" with Chuck Mosley, before transitioning into the Mike Patton era with "From Out of Nowhere."

  • Eclectic Range: Showcases the band's ability to pivot from the soulful lounge vibes of "Evidence" to the aggressive, jarring thrash of "The Gentle Art of Making Enemies."

  • Rare Gems: Includes "I Started a Joke" (Bee Gees cover), which became a massive hit in several territories despite not appearing on a standard studio album.

Original Pressing & Collector Notes Because there is no 1998 vinyl, the 2021 "Gold" release is considered the "original" and most sought-after version for vinyl enthusiasts.

  • Identification: Look for the gold "Indie Exclusive" hype sticker and the catalog number 190295233174. US and European versions share very similar packaging but different manufacturing origins (Optimal Media for EU).

  • Vinyl Quality: The 2021 edition is a 2LP set pressed on 180g Limited Edition Gold Vinyl. It is highly regarded by audiophiles for its quiet noise floor and "punchy" mastering, particularly on the Angel Dust era tracks.

  • Mastering: Lacquers were cut at Alchemy Mastering by Barry Grint (Bazza). The runout typically features the "Bazza Alchemy" etching.

  • Packaging: Housed in a sturdy gatefold sleeve featuring the iconic "Blue Question Mark" artwork on the cover. The interior gatefold contains detailed liner notes by Steffan Chirazi and rare band photography.

    • Keywords: Faith No More, Who Cares A Lot, Greatest Hits, 2021 Vinyl, Gold Vinyl, Limited Edition, Mike Patton, Chuck Mosley, Slash Records, Epic, Funk Metal.
