Roots Reggae
Island Records, UK - 1979

The Mango/Island Connection: While the Wailing Souls recorded this at Channel One with the legendary Jo Jo Hoo Kim, the UK first pressing was released on Island Records (ILPS 9523). Look for the blue "Day & Night" Island label. This is the version collectors prefer over the later Mango reissues because it uses the original 1979 lacquer cuts.

The Channel One Sound: This album is a masterclass in the "Roots Radics" style of the late 70s. The UK pressing is highly regarded for its bottom-end. Unlike some thinner US pressings, the UK Island vinyl was mastered to handle the heavy, subsonic bass frequencies of tracks like "Slow Coach" and "Row Fisherman."
